2013 Lexus ES Hybrid Revealed at 2012 NY Auto Show

The new hybrid Lexus ES 300h was recently unveiled at the New York Auto Show along with the new Camry and regular 2013 Lexus ES. The most important thing to notice here is that the new edition of ES is no more based on Camry’s platform but now it has a platform that is stretched by two inches compared to the typical Camry platform.

It would be apt to say that now ES rides on the same platform as 2013 Toyota Avalon. The grille and taillights have been redesigned; otherwise the sedan remains same compared to the earlier editions.

The highpoint of this unveiling was that there came a hybrid version along with gas powered ES. While there are no power-train changes in the regular ES, the hybrid ES 300h sedan gets a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine, which is mated to a CVT transmission system.

The same power-train and drive-train is seen in the Camry Hybrid sedan as well. Both the sedans are designed with front wheel drive configuration. Lexus hopes to best Camry hybrid with its own hybrid that promises 40mpg on highways.

The pricing details of either of the new Lexus sedans have not been divulged but they are expected to hit the sales chart during spring this year.
