Nova Bus that had formerly marketed RTS hybrid, added a diesel electric hybrid model for its LFS sequence in 2006.

In UK, Wrightbus introduced “Double Decker”, which was a new interpretation of the usual red buses. The Wright Pulsar Gemini HEV bus was incorporated with a small diesel engine and electric motor with lithium ion battery pack.

It used a 1.9 liter diesel engine instead of usual 7.0 liter engine, which were used in the traditional bus; this engine was extremely advantageous in dense traffic situations. According to London test cycle, reduction in co2 emissions of 31% and 40% of fuel savings has been demonstrated when compared to Euro-4 bus.

In 2005, GE launched its hybrid electric shifters in the market; Toyota introduced its Coaster Hybrid Bus in 1997 to the Japanese market. GM started its hybrid electric buses manufacturing in 2003 May. Hundreds of these buses have entered the US for daily operations.
